Invicta Fighting Championships, the world’s leading all-women mixed martial arts promotion, announced on Wednesday that it will return to the famed Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Mo., on Sep. 23. The promotion revealed an ambitious card by anchoring it with two titles on the line.
The main event will see newly-crowned “interim” flyweight champion Jennifer Maia defend her belt against popular veteran Roxanne Modafferi. Maia landed her title in March when she toppled Vanessa Porto by unanimous decision in an all-action brawl. Modafferi, who gained fame in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Strikeforce, has been on a roll lately, having won four of her last five bouts.
The co-featured bout will see Japan’s Ayaka Hamasaki putting her atomweight title on the line against Jinh Yu Frey. Both women are on fire, with the champion on a five-fight winning streak while Yu Frey has been victorious in her last four.
Invicta FC 19 will stream live on UFC Fight Pass. Additional bouts for the event will be announced soon.
